Fire awareness training FAQs
What’s the difference between fire awareness and fire warden training? +
Fire awareness training is for everyone in the workplace — the basic knowledge every employee needs to recognise risks, raise the alarm, and evacuate safely. Fire warden (or fire marshal) training is for specifically appointed staff who lead evacuations, check equipment, and have additional duties under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Most workplaces need both. We offer Fire Warden Training as a separate course.
Is fire awareness training a legal requirement? +
For most UK workplaces, yes. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 places a duty on the ‘responsible person’ — usually the employer — to provide adequate fire safety training to all employees. This course is designed to satisfy that requirement for general staff awareness.
How long does the course take? +
Most learners complete the course in around 90 minutes. You can pause and come back at any time — your progress is saved automatically.
Who is this course for? +
Every employee in your organisation. From office staff to warehouse workers, kitchen teams to care home staff — anyone who could be in the building when a fire alarm sounds needs basic fire awareness.
What if I fail the assessment? +
Retakes are completely free of charge. There’s no limit on attempts and no extra cost.
Will I get a certificate? +
Yes. A RoSPA-approved, CPD-accredited fire awareness certificate is issued instantly on completion of the course and is downloadable from your account.
Does the certificate expire? +
The certificate doesn’t have an expiry date — once you’ve passed, it’s yours. We recommend refreshing your fire awareness training every 3 years, or sooner if your premises, fire safety arrangements, or job change significantly.
Do I need any prior knowledge to take this course? +
No. There are no entry requirements. The course explains everything from first principles — fire safety law, common hazards, the equipment in your building, alarms and evacuation procedures.
